The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Regulating Gambling in the 21st century

Gambling stirs passions. It offers pleasure for players, financial returns for organisers and funding for the State and the public sector at large. But, this arrangement is increasingly on shaky grounds and this in a period of Poker mania and EuroMillion frenzy where one can bet on any and all aspects of a football match and this at any time of day and night.

  • • What are the main challenges for this historically heavily regulated sector?
  • • What of match-fixing, corruption and money laundering?
  • • What of problem gambling?
  • • What of liberalisation and internationalisation?
  • • In whose favour are the odds now?

Prof. Jean-Patrick Villeneuve will try to give a comprehensive view of the dynamics, challenges and possible futures to the regulation of the gambling sector.
