Why not organizing a conference in a… circus?!

  |   Event, switzerland   |   1 Comment

A few weeks ago, I went to see a circus here in Martigny, Switzerland. This was the Starlight Circus that I recommend.

Following its contemporary concept, the Cirque Starlight (who turns 25) and its director, Stefan Hort, mix again this year, theater, dance and music with circus arts. The decor of Entresort, the name of the show this year, consists of a multitude of doors that symbolize many openings and passages to the memories of the past.

So what is the link with Klewel advanced webcasting solutions? Well, last year we webcasted the DjangoCon 2012 conference in Zurich, this is a very techy conference with people passionate about programming and web development.

This year in Poland, they decided to organize their conference in a… circus! Have a look at this video, a very original format to enjoy a conference:

In Zurich last year, all the talks were captured and webcasted live using our Triskel capture station and webcasting platform. More about it on https://www.klewel.com/triskel

Great format indeed Mael, thank you for pointing this out in your blogpost. Its interesting how “by putting something else” at the centre of things (like Copernicus did with the sun) you can change the perception and dimension of the new reality.

I had the pleasure of speaking at a circus based conference in 2008 which was organised bu HSMAI in the Netherlands of which the excellent videos above reminded me. We know for a fact that Cirque du Soleil has changed the paradigm of the circus for good and created a completely new blue ocean for that space. There is no reason why conference organisers cannot achieve the same levels of innovation by leaving something out (animals in the case of Cirque du Soleil). What is that something? speakers perhaps and make formats participant driven, or technology and go back to the basic art of entertaining and conversation or is it something else? Your post has sparked the thinking and thank you for doing that again)!

PS: one thing is for sure, we miss a common language to express the way events function, to resolve that we’re venturing on a new project. See the first steps here; subscribe and you can become a part of http://www.eventmodelgeneration.com
    Best regards,
